Why does fitness often feel like work? It feels like an obligation instead of an opportunity to have fun. As adults, we’ve lost the joy of movement because we have accumulated injuries and tightness in our bodies. Movement has become less enjoyable as we age.
Kids love to move. They jump, squat, dance, and wiggle all the time. However, they don’t move as much as they get older because they are taught to sit still for class or that movement isn’t appropriate in many situations. Over time, they lose the joy of movement because so few situations are deemed appropriate places for them to do it.
As adults, we need to change this. Physical fitness can and should be fun most of the time. Activity and intentional movement look different for everybody. Recreational sports, marathons, dancing, CrossFit, high-intensity training, yoga, swimming, biking, and anything that requires intentional movement are valid. Find what you enjoy and get moving.
Proactive Kinetics works to make physical therapy fun. Dr. Samantha adapts exercises and treatment plans to fit your goals. Because we spend more time with our clients, we learn what they consider enjoyable activities and hobbies and try to tie their physical therapy into things they love doing. We get runners outside. Athletes get treated like competitors. Moms use their kids as part of their therapy. If you cannot do something fun because of a movement-related issue, schedule a 30-minute discovery call to discuss how we can get you moving again and doing things you enjoy.
