Why we exist

We serve people by improving their overall wellness.

We want to treat people well and help them stay active. Humans are built to move and when pain or discomfort prevents them from moving the way they want, then their overall wellbeing — physical and mental — deteriorate. We help our clients live the life they want and go beyond simply having a long and healthy life, but a life filled with joy and engagement.

How we fulfill our purpose

We provide exceptional experiences to improve client wellbeing with consistency, accountability, and proven processes.

We started Proactive Kinetics because we wanted to change how our clients experienced physical therapy and the results they achieved. Our approach to physical therapy bridges the gap between the fitness and medical fields. This means it's about making the client experience more enjoyable while holding them to a higher standard of accountability. Physical therapy only works if you do the work. We're simply the guide to help you stay on track to accomplish the goals you want.

Dr. Samantha Elrod, PT, DPT

Owner, Physical Therapist, & Rockstar Mom

About Dr. Samantha:

She is a physical therapist with 9 years of experience mostly in orthopedics and pelvic health. During her career, she’s completed 28,000+ treatments in an outpatient therapy setting serving roles as staff clinician and clinic director. She graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center with a doctorate in physical therapy in 2014 and Middle Tennessee State University (Go Blue Raiders!) in 2011 with a bachelor’s of science in biology.

She is a native of Woodbury and lives in Murfreesboro with her husband, two dogs, and two active boys. She enjoys spending time with her family and keeping up with her boys.

Why I became a physical therapist:

I love keeping people active and achieving their goals. I don’t want aches, pains, and weakness to limit someone from playing with their children or someone completing their first 5K/half marathon. When I was 5 years old, my grandmother became paralyzed from the waist down and became wheelchair bound. I would go with her to intensive rehab sessions at least once a week while she was in the rehabilitation hospital. She had to re-learn new daily life modifications. Several years later, I spent several hours observing the physical therapists at the local hospital while in high school and college.

Why I wanted to start Proactive Kinetics:

I had worked in two large, high-volume, and corporate physical therapy organizations. I felt that I was not giving the individualized care my patients needed to overcome their injuries. Often this was due to lack of time with the patients and the limitations placed on clinicians by insurances.

Then several life events happened late in 2022 and early 2023 which led us to our rainbow baby. By that time, I was burned out as a clinic director and felt like I wanted to make a shift in how I provided care for my patients. I wanted to spend more time with my family while building a community of clients who needed a more tailored care to meet their individual goals.

Adam Elrod

Owner, Strategy & Business Development, & Trophy Husband

About Adam:

A native of Lascassas, Adam has spent most of his life in Murfreesboro where he graduated from Oakland High School and Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Communications. He's worked in a number of roles including facilities and event management, website development and online marketing, and has spent the past 7 years working in the communications and marketing department for Middle Tennessee Electric.

When he's not working or hanging out with his family, he enjoys playing recreational sports including basketball and flag football and loves to watch the Tennessee Titans on Sundays. Adam also enjoys DIY projects at home where he gets to learn new skills.

Why I love physical therapy:

I didn't know the value of PT growing up which led to improper rehab from a major ankle injury and surgery when I was 18. This injury left me with a very immobile ankle and led to additional issues with my hips and back as I've gotten older. With such an active lifestyle, I learned the value of preventive therapy and stopping issues before they compounded. It allows me to do what I love and gives me the confidence to stay active and engaged with my boys as they grow up. This mentality led to regular, weekly physical therapy sessions at Dr. Samantha's previous workplace for months at a time.

Why I wanted to start Proactive Kinetics:

As someone who has received a lot of physical therapy, I felt like the clinicians who treated me weren't able to work at their highest ability due to restrictions within a traditional outpatient therapy clinic. I saw the strain and stress the work had on my wife's physical and mental wellbeing. I wanted to help her find a way to fulfill her purpose of helping people move.

I also selfishly wanted her to have more time to spend with the boys and me instead of the long hours she had to work. Proactive Kinetics became the way we could accomplish our goals.
