Running Through Pain Isn't a Strategy - It's a Risk

Ignoring the real cause of your running injury doesn't make it go away. It makes it worse — and eventually forces you to stop running altogether.

Your Miles Are Disappearing

Every week you train through pain is a week of setbacks building up. Without addressing the root cause — weak hips, poor gait mechanics, overloaded tendons - you're not just delaying recovery, you're making the next injury inevitable.

Generic Advice Isn't Getting You Better

Rest. Ice. Stretch. You've heard it all before. Cookie-cutter treatment plans don't account for how you move, how you train, or what your body actually needs. You need a plan built for you - not the average runner.

Your Race Goal Is Slipping Away

Whether it's a 5K PR or your first half marathon, every week spent injured is a week behind your training plan. The longer the root cause goes untreated, the harder it becomes to get back to the starting line healthy and confident.

Why Murfreesboro Runners Choose Proactive Kinetics

We don't just treat your symptoms — we dig into why you got hurt in the first place. Using objective running gait analysis and hands-on manual therapy, Dr. Samantha Elrod builds a personalized plan to get you moving better, running stronger, and staying injury-free for the long run. Getting Back to Running Is Simpler Than You Think

Step 1: Resolve

Before we can improve how you move, we have to understand why you hurt. We start with a deep-dive investigation to peel back the layers of your discomfort and identify the actual root cause. This isn't about a temporary patch or masking the pain. It’s about resolving the barriers between you and your movement potential so we can clear a path for the work ahead.

Step 2: Reload

Once the path is clear, we bridge the gap between being pain-free and being powerful. This is where you take the lead. We progressively reload your tissues and movement patterns, proving to your body and your mind that you are capable of more than you think. We don’t just give you a temporary routine; we help you build the movement habits that restore your confidence and your strength.

Step 3: Reinforce

Resilience isn’t a one-time event; it’s a sustainable habit. We look at the next ten years, not just the next ten days. In this final phase, we reinforce your progress by refining your mechanics and handing you the self-management tools needed to stay durable. We build a fortress around your movement so it remains joyful, permanent, and entirely under your control for decades to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first visit to our Murfreesboro running physical therapy clinic.

Do you accept health insurance?

Proactive Kinetics is a cash-based physical therapy clinic — we do not bill insurance directly. This model allows us to provide truly personalized, one-on-one care without the limitations imposed by insurance companies. Many clients find that the quality and efficiency of care means fewer total visits, making it a worthwhile investment. We can provide a superbill upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

What is a running gait analysis, and do I need one?

A running gait analysis is an objective assessment of how you run — examining your stride, foot strike, hip mechanics, and overall form to identify compensations and weaknesses that contribute to injury. If you're a runner dealing with recurring pain, returning from injury, or looking to improve performance, a gait analysis is one of the most valuable tools we have. It takes the guesswork out of your treatment plan.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit allows us to investigate what is wrong. We conduct a thorough movement screen and running assessment, review your injury history and training habits, and identify the root cause of your pain or limitation. From there, we'll build a personalized plan together. Sessions are always one-on-one with Dr. Elrod — no aides, no assistants.

How is Proactive Kinetics different from a traditional PT clinic?

At most large clinics, you're seen by a technician or aide for much of your visit, often with multiple patients being treated simultaneously. At Proactive Kinetics, every minute of your appointment is spent one-on-one with Dr. Elrod. We also bridge the gap between the medical and fitness worlds, helping you not just recover but return to the sport or activity you love at full capacity.

Do you treat conditions beyond running injuries?

Absolutely. While running physical therapy in Murfreesboro is one of our specialties, we also treat a wide range of orthopedic conditions — shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and spine pain — as well as pelvic health concerns through our Kinetic Moms Program. Whether you're a weightlifter, CrossFitter, weekend warrior, or a prenatal or postpartum mom, we have a program designed for you.

What are your hours, and how do I schedule?

We're open Monday from 2 PM to 6 PM, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. We are closed Saturday and Sunday. To schedule your first appointment, call us at (615) 542-9531 or book online at proactivekinetics.com.
