My days are cluttered with things I’ve agreed to do. Work obligations, family activities, TV shows, house chores, and really anything that uses my time. By choosing to do something that’s not intentional, we’re allowing clutter into our schedule.
We have more time than we realize, but our attention is drained away by allowing clutter in our lives. Our attention and time are finite. Things that distract you from your intentional choices prevent you from reaching your goals. Every time you say “yes” to something, you’re saying “no” to something else. The more intentional you are with your time, the more willing you are to say “no” to things that don’t align with your intentions.
For me, TV time and mobile screen time are things I say “yes” to simply by not saying anything at all. It’s not an intentional use of my time. It prevents me from working on positive things like my mobility, knowledge base, and relationships. Unintentional activities that aren’t aligned with our goals steal your time and attention. I suspect this is the case for many people. We don’t do our exercises because they aren’t as enjoyable or distracting as our favorite shows or social media accounts.
Maybe you’re not ready to give up some of your screen time. That’s okay. A trick I’ve learned is to do specific exercises while watching stories on Facebook. The exercises take little time to complete and typically no longer than a short video. The next level I’d recommend is to complete your home exercise program while watching a TV show. You can turn a typically unintentional screen time choice into an intentional movement opportunity. With so many streaming services, it’s easy to watch it on your mobile device and place it where you can see it during your movements. This works for more than just TV, though. Audiobooks and podcasts also work very well with this approach. Whatever you do, do it intentionally and toward your goals.
Improving your mobility is about adding intentional and varied movement throughout your day. A home exercise program is how Dr. Samantha can help you determine what those movements are based on you. Every person is as unique and different as the goals they are trying to achieve. Schedule a 30-minute discovery call to see how she can help you move more intentionally and reach your movement goals.
